Description
Keeragh Lodge' is a large country house built in 2003. It is accessed from Altikeeragh Road, Castlerock by a private driveway one hundred and fifty yards long. It is four hundred and fifty feet above sea level and occupies one of the most commanding views of the North Coast of Northern Ireland. The field of vision covers from Knocklayde Mountain, Ballycastle, The Giants Causeway, Portrush, Portstewart, River Bann, the Mussenden Temple, Downhill, Co Londonderry to the navigation light at Shrove Point which is the entrance to Lough Foyle.
It is situated on three and a half acres land, two acres of which are grazing and over one acre of mature woodland which is a haven for wildlife, home to numerous species of birds and mammals. The view to the front of the property covers hundreds of acres of farmland and beyond that, two and a quarter miles away, the Atlantic Ocean. Subject to clear visibility the Scottish islands of Islay and Jura are in view. To the left of the property is the eastern escarpment of Benevenagh Mountain with Ballyhackett viewpoint just over one mile away. Lengthy views onto farmland exist to the rear and right of the property.
The location is such that the beaches of Downhill and Castlerock are a five-minute drive away as is the National Trust Gardens of the Downhill Estate.
An outstanding feature of the location is the ever-changing view, as the sky conditions change the Atlantic Ocean colour changes, the result being that every day is different at Keeragh Lodge.' In mid-summer the sun rises over the ocean to the left of Portstewart and sets over the eastern flank of Benevenagh Mountain.
Keeragh Lodge' was operated as a Bed & Breakfast facility by the current owners from 2007 until 2018.
